Calvin “Rock” McCrary Jr. was born in rural Seney, Georgia on December 27, 1962 to Estella & Calvin McCrary Sr. Rock attended Rockmart High School where he played Varsity Baseball, Basketball and Varsity Wrestling. After high school, Rock played basketball and baseball at Georgia College for one year. For two years Rock pursued his dream of playing in the MLB, but he quickly realized a formal education was the Plan A, B & C.
Rock finished his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Fort Valley State University. He completed his Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Troy State University, and he received his Educational Specialist Degree from Cambridge College. Rock is presently finishing his Doctoral Degree from Grand Canyon University in Education Leadership while serving as a High School Assistant Principal in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1987, Rock was introduced to the game of softball on a competitive level by The Legend himself “Mr. Theotis Griswold”. Rock’s first softball tournament ever was the USSSA Class “A” State Championships where he played for the Unionville Giants out of Macon, GA., who won the championship and Rock was selected to the ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM.
Playing Major Softball all his adult career, Rock has amassed many awards and accolades, but none bigger than being selected to “Georgia’s USSSA Softball Hall of Fame”. Rock played with such teams as Supreme Worth out of St. Louis, Missouri, Sports11.com out of San Antonio, Texas, The Texans out of Houston, Texas, Reds/Fairweather out of Seattle, Washington, Oswego Drywall out of Portland, Oregon, O & S Cattle out of Des Moines, Iowa, Bay Mountain Air out of San Jose, California and Karphone out of Long Beach, California where he and John Bailey hit (2 & 3) in the line-up.
Now playing on the Senior Softball Circuit, Rock has again garnered many individual and team awards, but having the opportunity and honor of playing with and against some of the best softball players on the Planet is his joy. Rock Senior Softball Teams are comprised of players from different parts of the country and from different ethnic backgrounds which helps bring unity to the team on and off the field. Rock and all the Senior Softball Players come together to compete and enjoy each other families and to build lifelong relationships. Rock’s greatest thrill while competing and playing the “Great Game of Softball” is truly the PEOPLE and the CAMARADERIE.
